“Thank you for your support”: how to say it politely
Why it can fall flat
“thank you for your support”
The phrase often shows up at the close of a project, meeting, or favor, so it can land as a stock sign-off. A specific detail about what the person actually did makes them feel noticed.

Thanks, Justin, for sitting in on the client call today. Your answer on the delivery dates cleared up their main worry, and I really appreciate it.
What to avoid
- Using it as a lone sign-off, with no detail about what the person actually did, leaves the thanks empty.
- Piling on extra words like “sincerely” or “greatly” to sound warmer doesn't help, because a specific detail does more.
- Copying and pasting the same thanks to several people is easy to spot.
- Skip thanking in advance, such as “thanks in advance for your support”, which can sound like you're assuming a yes.
