What to say instead of “please pay your invoice”
Why it can fall flat
“please pay your invoice”
The other person is likely to hear “please pay your invoice” as a bare order with no context, cold or even accusing, as if they ignored you on purpose. You usually want to be paid on time while keeping things friendly and the next step clear.

What to avoid
- Opening with an accusation like “You still haven't paid” when a simple oversight is the more likely cause.
- Leave out the invoice number, amount or due date and the reader has to hunt for the details.
- Writing in capital letters or piling on exclamation marks to sound urgent usually backfires.
- A message that ends without a clear next step, such as a payment date or a request to reply, tends to stall.
- Threats or consequences have no place in a first reminder.
