Better ways to say “I'm not interested in the position”
Why it can fall flat
“I'm not interested in the position”
Sending “I'm not interested in the position” alone can leave the other person feeling brushed off after the effort they put in. A clear no with thanks and a brief reason is usually what you want.

Suits a LinkedIn or messaging-app approach where a long reply would feel out of place.

What to avoid
- Replying with only “not interested” and nothing else comes across as curt.
- Making up a reason, like a fake offer elsewhere, leaves you a story to keep up later.
- Criticizing the pay, the company or the recruiter is best saved for when they ask for feedback.
- Leaving the message unanswered wastes the other person's time.
- A long explanation can make your no sound open to discussion.
