Saying “I'm interested” at work
Why it can fall flat
“I'm interested”
A listener hearing “I'm interested” may not know what you want or what should happen next. Most of the time you want to show real enthusiasm and keep the conversation moving without committing yet.

Thanks for thinking of me for the onboarding project. It sounds interesting. Can we chat for ten minutes tomorrow about the scope and timing?
What to avoid
- Replying with only “I'm interested” leaves the other person guessing what happens next.
- Hinting at a yes when you aren't there yet is risky, so say “I'd like to know more” instead.
- Piling on exclamation marks or phrases like “super excited” before you have the details can overpromise.
- A reply that arrives several days late can read as lack of interest, even when you meant the opposite.
