“I missed your email”: how to say it politely
Why it can fall flat
“I missed your email”
The word “missed” sounds like a shrug, since it names the problem but offers no answer, no timing and no sign you care. Better to say you didn't see it, own that, and give a time they can expect a reply.

Hi Zainab, I didn't spot your email from Monday until this morning, and I've now read it properly. Here are my answers to your three questions: 1. … 2. … 3. … If anything is unclear, let me know and I'll go through it with you. Best wishes, Casey
Hi Isaac, I overlooked your message about the invoice query. I've read it now and will send the corrected figures by 4pm.
What to avoid
- Don't blame your spam folder or the sender unless you know that is what happened.
- A long explanation or apology is too much, because one clear sentence about the slip is enough.
- Saying you missed it and then stopping leaves the reader hanging, so always add the answer or a time for it.
- Promising a time you can't keep backfires, and a realistic deadline beats a fast one you will miss.
- Claiming you never received the email is risky if you simply didn't read it.
