What to avoid
- Skipping thanks altogether, which makes a plain announcement feel cold.
- Leaving out who takes over your work or who people should contact.
- Using the message to complain about the company, your manager or colleagues.
- Announcing it in a group message before your manager and key clients know.
- Sending your goodbye at the very end of the day, when people have no time to respond or hand things over.
