Saying “today is my last day” at work
Why it can fall flat
“today is my last day”
Most people hear “today is my last day” as a sudden exit with no handover or thanks. You likely just want to be clear you're leaving and show people what happens next.

Hi team, I'm finishing up today, so this is my last day. Thanks for all the help along the way. My handover doc is pinned in this channel.
What to avoid
- A one-line message with no thanks and no handover details leaves people feeling brushed off.
- Venting about the company, your manager or colleagues in a farewell note will be remembered longer than the goodbye.
- Vague offers like “call me anytime” are best skipped if you don't intend to keep them.
- Clients or customers should hear the news only after your manager has agreed the message.
- Jokes about slamming the door or being glad to be gone can read as real bitterness.
