Alternatives to “please reply to my message” at work
Why it can fall flat
“please reply to my message”
A bare “please reply to my message” can read as impatient, as if the person has been ignoring you. You usually just want an answer by a time that suits you both, with the reason it matters.

Hi Freya, I'm following up on the draft I sent on Tuesday. The launch date is still Monday, and I can only keep it if I have your feedback by Thursday afternoon. Could you reply with your changes, or just a quick okay if it's good as it is? Thanks, Kerry
Hi Peyton, quick nudge on my message about the Friday report. I need your sales figures by 3 pm today to finish it on time. Could you send them over, or tell me if you need more time?
What to avoid
- Opening with “As I said before” or “Per my last message” sounds like blame.
- Several nudges in a row on different channels within minutes feel like pressure.
- Capital letters or extra exclamation marks to show urgency come across as shouting.
- A request with no reason or time leaves the person unsure how urgent it is.
- Hinting that the other person is at fault is unfair when you don't yet know why they haven't answered.
