A kinder way to say “let me know your thoughts”

Why it can fall flat

“let me know your thoughts”

Replies drift or stall, because “thoughts” doesn't say what kind of feedback you need or by when. A narrower ask, such as a yes-or-no on the budget by Friday, gets a faster and more focused answer.

Say this instead

  1. 01

Could you look over the draft and tell me whether the structure works? I'd like to send it out on Thursday, so feedback by Wednesday would help.

    Boss · Email

Use it when you need approval on a piece of work, because it names what to check and gives a date.

  2. 02

What do you think of this approach? I'm mainly checking the timeline. Does anything look off to you?

    Coworker · Chat

Good for a quick sanity check, since it points your colleague to the part you care about.

  3. 03

Please share any comments on the proposal by Friday, 5 pm. If it looks fine as it is, a short yes is enough.

    Client · Email

Suits a busy client, as it sets a deadline and makes a simple reply acceptable.

  4. 04

I'd like your view on the new rota before I finalize it. Can you reply by tomorrow noon with what works and what doesn't?

    Someone you manage · Chat

Shows you value their input while making clear that a decision is coming and when.

  5. 05

I've attached my updated CV. Do you think it fits the role as described, or is there anything you'd change before it goes to the hiring manager?

    Recruiter / HR · Email

Useful when you want honest, actionable input rather than a general reply.

  6. 06

Hi Divya, your quote is ready. Does the plan work for you? Reply YES to go ahead or tell us what you'd like changed.

    Customer · SMS

Gives the customer an easy next step, which suits a short text.

  7. 07

Sent you the slides. Any feedback before 3 pm today? Even a quick 'looks fine' or a single change helps.

    Coworker · SMS

Best when time is tight, since it lowers the effort needed to reply.

  8. 08

Option A is cheaper and option B is faster. Which do you prefer? I need to confirm with the vendor by Monday.

    Boss · Chat

Turns an open request into a clear choice with a reason for the deadline.

Hi Denise, I've attached the draft agenda for Tuesday's planning session. Could you check whether the timings are realistic and tell me if anything is missing? Feedback by end of day Monday would let me send it to everyone that evening. Thanks, Tariq

Hi Robin, I've updated the onboarding checklist. Can you skim it and tell me if any step is unclear? A reply by 4 pm would be great.

What to avoid

  • Sending it with no deadline, then chasing the person a day later.
  • Asking for “thoughts” when you really need a yes or no, instead of asking for the decision directly.
  • Putting both “no rush” and “ASAP” in the same message sends a mixed signal.
  • Using it after a long message without saying which part you want feedback on.
  • Ending every message with it out of habit means people stop noticing the request.
