A kinder way to say “have a nice weekend”
Why it can fall flat
“have a nice weekend”
Coming right after a request or bad news, it may sound like a stock sign-off or a quick brush-off to the person reading it. Usually you want to close the week warmly and show you mean it.
Say this instead
- 01
Thanks for the guidance this week. Hope you get a proper break over the weekend. I'll pick this up on Monday.
Boss · Chat
Fits a Friday afternoon chat with your boss because the thanks and the clear next step make the wish feel sincere.
- 02
Thanks for helping with the report today. Enjoy the weekend, and I hope you get some time to switch off.
Coworker · Chat
Naming something specific you appreciated makes the wish feel personal for a coworker.
- 03
Thank you for your time this week. I wish you a restful weekend, and we can pick up the revised draft on Monday.
Client · Email
Formal enough for client emails, and it tells them when work picks up again.
- 04
Nice work getting that release out. Switch off properly this weekend, you've earned the rest.
Someone you manage · Chat
Praising the effort first lets the weekend wish come across as care rather than routine.
- 05
Thanks for the update. Hope you have a relaxing weekend, and I look forward to hearing from you next week.
Recruiter / HR · Email
A good way to keep a hiring conversation warm while setting the expectation of a reply next week.
- 06
Thank you for your patience this week. Wishing you a pleasant weekend, and do get in touch if anything else comes up.
Customer · Email
Suits a customer whose issue is handled, and it leaves the door open without promising anything.
- 07
Heading off now. Hope the weekend is a good one, see you Monday!
Coworker · SMS
Short and friendly for a colleague you already text when you are leaving for the day.
- 08
Glad we got that sorted. Enjoy the rest of your Friday and the weekend ahead.
Customer · Chat
Ending a live chat this way keeps a positive tone once the problem is resolved.

What to avoid
- Tacking it onto a message that contains a demand or criticism can make it sound sarcastic.
- Several exclamation marks in a row look forced, while a single one stays friendly.
- Some people work shifts or have different days off, so don't assume everyone has the weekend free.
- If the message is serious or upsetting, leave the wish out and keep the tone matched to the content.
