Saying “remove me from the group text” at work
Why it can fall flat
“remove me from the group text”
Abrupt, as if the group itself is the problem, when you only want fewer pings: the word “remove” can read that way. A quieter, clearer request lets you step back without anyone feeling shut out.

Hi Reese, could you take me off this group text? I'm happy to get anything important by email or chat instead. Thanks!
Coworker · SMS
Friendly and direct, this suits an informal group where you just need another route for important messages.

Could I be taken off the group text and get anything important by email? That would help me keep track of decisions. If it helps, we could also move team updates there.
Boss · Email
Leading with your own request and offering the team-wide change as an option leaves your boss the final call.

Hi Niamh, I'm going to step out of the group text so I can keep client messages in one place. Please email me at [your email address] and it will reach me there.

Late or weekend messages are often the real problem, and this states your boundary without blaming anyone.

I'm leaving the team group text so work stays in our work channels. For anything you need from me, please message me here on chat or send an email.

A manager who wants to model clear boundaries can use this to keep requests where they can be tracked.

Here the reason is real, since a shared support inbox lets the whole team see the message and respond.

Hi Malik, could you remove me from this group text? Email is better for me, so please send any updates there. Thanks.
Recruiter / HR · SMS
Polite and brief, this keeps the request about your preferred channel rather than about the recruiter.
Examples

Hi Blake, could you take me off the project group text? I'm happy to get anything that needs me by email or here on chat. Thanks!
What to avoid
- Explaining or defending yourself at length is unnecessary, since one short reason is enough.
- Criticizing the group or the people in it, even mildly, will make the request feel like a complaint.
- Leaving the group silently without telling the person who runs it can come across as rude or confusing.
- If work really does need you, skip no step in offering another way to reach you.
- A sarcastic reply or an emoji used to make the point will undercut an otherwise polite request.
