How to say “please sign this document” professionally
Why it can fall flat
“please sign this document”
Readers get a bare command: “please sign this document” doesn't say which document or when it's needed. What you want is a signature by a set date, requested without pressure.

What to avoid
- Sending the document with no explanation of what it is or why it needs a signature.
- Leaving out a deadline, or writing “ASAP” when you have a real date in mind.
- All caps, repeated exclamation marks or “as per my last email” will make a reminder feel hostile.
- Skipping the signing steps leaves people guessing, so say where to sign and how to send it back.
- Asking for a signature on something the person hasn't had a chance to read is a quick way to lose trust.
