Alternatives to “nice to meet you” at work
Why it can fall flat
“nice to meet you”
People usually say “nice to meet you” in a first email, chat or text, where it can read as automatic and generic. Most writers want to show they're glad to connect and leave a clear, friendly first impression.

What to avoid
- Someone you've already met shouldn't get this line, so say “good to see you again” or “good to speak again” instead.
- Add one real detail from your conversation rather than sending the same greeting to everyone.
- Match the formality to the channel, since a warm, short line suits chat or SMS while email can be a little fuller.
- Big words like “honored” or “thrilled” can sound insincere with someone you've just met, so skip them.
