Alternatives to “an employee has left” at work
Why it can fall flat
“an employee has left”
When someone leaves and you have to tell others, “an employee has left” feels vague and cold, and it leaves people guessing who and why. Usually you want to say who has gone, from when, and who to contact now.

What to avoid
- Don't give reasons or guess why the person left; stick to the fact that they have gone and when.
- Wait to announce it until the person and HR or your manager are happy for it to be shared.
- Leaving out who to contact now means people will keep writing to the person who left.
- Casual or harsh words like “got rid of” or “vanished” sound unkind and can start rumors.
